Solmar V
The Solmar V is a 112’ luxury live-aboard dive vessel based in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico since 1992.
Now under new ownership, the Solmar V is a true four-season live-aboard that takes advantage of weather patterns to provide optimal diving year-round.
We journey 250 miles south of Los Cabos into the eastern Pacific Ocean to the Revillagigedos Islands—more commonly known as the Socorro Islands—to dance with the Giant Pacific manta ray, cavort with dolphins, dodge seven different species of sharks and thrill to an occasional lucky interaction with the migrating humpback whale population. This is remote, adventure diving at its finest.
The Sea of Cortez is one of the youngest and most fertile seas on earth, containing over 850 species of reef fish, as well as the famous flying mobulas and an assortment of schooling pelagics and tropicals. We've been diving the Sea of Cortez for over 25 years, and we call it home.
In August and September, we are based in Ensenada, Mexico and follow the ultimate apex predator to Guadalupe Island, 180 miles offshore. This is rapidly becoming the world's best location to dive in custom-built shark cages with great white sharks. Because we use hookah instead of scuba tanks on these trips, you do not need to be a certified scuba diver to enjoy the rush of going eyeball to eyeball with a 16' great white shark.
- Each mahogany-detailed stateroom features air conditioning with individual controls, a private head, sink and shower and a TV/DVD player for your enjoyment.
- While we have always maintained satellite phone systems for emergency use, we also installed a brand new SEA WAVE communications system which will allow much better access via phone and email. If you're interested in email, you may sign up before you leave for your trip and have email sent to your Solmar V Sea Wave account. All online and easy.
- When we visit the Sea of Cortez or Socorro diving is sometimes done from the pangas and sometimes from the Solmar V, depending on the dive site and conditions
- Guests may also dive directly from the Solmar V. There are entry gates on both sides of the vessel, as well as our custom-built double swim step, which gets rave reviews from all our guests! Getting into and out of the water very easy. The helpful crew is always there to assist.
- The dive deck is very spacious and designed for flow and ease of use, even with a full load. The dive stations are positioned around the outside of the dive deck. You don't need to carry your tanks around at any time during your vacation. The crew will fill your tank between dives and move your gear to or from the panga if needed for the next dive. There is also plenty of room on both sides to hang your wetsuits.
- We now have Nitrox 32/36% onboard and will accept all Nitrox C-cards. Our Scuba Instructors can provide training on board for those guests who wish to use Nitrox and are not currently certified.
